Garmo Negro is a Pyrenean summit of over 3,000 metres that is relatively easy to climb and can easily be done in one day from Baños de Panticosa. The views from this top all around, including the National Park of Ordesa and Monte Perdido, are amazing. The hike is relatively difficult: over a distance of 5.5 kilometres we cover an altitude gain of more than 1,400 meters and the last stretch is steep with a large amount of loose stones. There are many trails through the area, all with milestones, so the use of GPS is recommended.

  • From the parking lot (1) we walk towards the small lake Ibón de Baños (2) where nearby a path starts on the right, marked with red stripes on the trees.
  • This path soon passes the well Fuente de la Laguna (3) and quickly winds upwards. After a total of half an hour at a fork we ignore the trail on the left (4) and continue straight ahead. The trail is occasionally marked with milestones.
  • Several trails with milestones run through the area. Three quarters of an hour after the fork we find another fork (5). Straight ahead the trail also goes towards Garmo Negro, but the route on the right is easier and the route most hikers choose.
  • A little less than an hour further, the trail right goes to the Collado de Pondiellos. Keep left here (6).
  • Another hour later we reach the Collado de Argualas via this trail, at 2,860 metres. From here, the last steep climb of 200 metres to Garmo Negro (8) awaits us.
  • On the way back also various routes are possible. The most convenient, however, is to walk back the same route.
